A bizarre incident from Meghalaya’s Tura, where a teenager from Siju village of South Garo Hills tried to attempt suicide by climbing onto a high-tension electrical post at her village but was saved due to zero electricity in the transmission lines.
The teenager took this step after an argument broke out between her and her parents. After which she climbed the electricity post. Both villagers and police rushed to the scene and tried to convince her to climb down. The scene went on for almost half an hour before she was safely brought down, said South Garo hills SP R Ravi.
There are two versions on the power cut doing the rounds — one involves government officials alerting the electrical station to cut the power to save her from getting electrocuted, the other is on the regular phenomenon of power cuts that plague the region.
