In a remarkable tribute to the valor of the 16th-century Ahom general Lachit Borphukan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a colossal 125-feet statue in Assam’s Jorhat district on Saturday.

This significant event took place at the Lachit Barphukan Maidam Development Project in the Hollongapar area, near Teok in the district, where the ‘Statue of Valour’ now stands as a symbol of courage and leadership.
The unveiling was conducted amidst traditional Ahom rituals, with Prime Minister Modi, dressed in traditional attire and headgear, leading the ceremony. The moment was further dignified by the presence of Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, alongside the Prime Minister.
Crafted by the renowned sculptor Ram Vanji Sutar, the statue itself is 84 feet high, mounted on a 41-foot pedestal, culminating in an impressive total height of 125 feet. This installation not only commemorates the heroism of Lachit Borphukan but also aims to inspire future generations with his legacy of resilience and patriotism.
The foundation for this grand statue was laid by the former President Ram Nath Kovind in February 2022, marking the beginning of a project that has since culminated in a landmark event for the region. The inauguration of the statue is a testament to the enduring respect and admiration for Lachit Borphukan’s contributions to the history and culture of Assam.
