The broad range of themes demonstrated the participants’ interest in applying technology and innovation to both emerging industries and pressing social and economic challenges.

The event also brought together participants from several prominent educational institutions across Assam, creating an environment for cross institutional interaction and exchange of ideas.

Students from Leading Institutions Showcase Ideas

Teams participating in the Ideathon represented institutions including Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology (GIMT), Assam Don Bosco University, Gauhati University, Assam Engineering College, Dhemaji Engineering College, Royal Global University and Assam down town University.

The participation of students from diverse academic backgrounds provided an opportunity for different perspectives to come together under a common innovation platform.

For emerging entrepreneurs, such competitions can provide an early opportunity to articulate a problem statement, present a proposed solution and understand how an idea could potentially develop into a viable product, service or startup.

The event therefore served not only as a competition but also as a platform for participants to gain experience in communicating innovative concepts to experienced professionals.

Two Round Competition Identifies Finalists

The competition was conducted through two rounds, allowing the organisers to progressively evaluate the participating ideas.

Following the initial stage, 14 teams advanced to the final presentation round. The shortlisted teams presented their concepts before a jury comprising experienced professionals from the technology and business sectors.

The final jury included Sanjeev Sarma, Founder and Chief Software Architect, Webx Technologies, and Biswajit Hazarika, Managing Director, Trans Virtual Pvt. Ltd.

The final presentation provided the shortlisted teams with an opportunity to articulate their ideas, demonstrate their understanding of the problems they were attempting to address and receive feedback from industry representatives.

Team Bharatdigicom Wins First Prize

After the final round of presentations, Team Bharatdigicom from Assam down town University emerged as the winner of dtVL Ideathon 2026.

The team secured the First Prize of ₹20,000 for its innovative idea and presentation.

The Third Prize of ₹10,000 went to Team Nexus Realm from Dhemaji Engineering College.

The winning teams were recognised for their performance during the competition, marking an important milestone in their innovation and entrepreneurship journey.

Ideathon Creates a Bridge Between Ideas and Industry

One of the key objectives of the Ideathon was to create a connection between young innovators and industry professionals.

Developing an idea into a viable solution requires more than creativity. Entrepreneurs must understand the problem they are addressing, identify potential users, evaluate feasibility and consider how their solutions could be developed and implemented.

By providing participants with opportunities to interact with jury members, mentors and other professionals, the Ideathon enabled them to receive perspectives beyond the classroom.

Industry feedback can help innovators identify potential gaps in their concepts and understand the practical considerations involved in taking an idea forward.

Encouraging Students to Think Like Entrepreneurs

Speaking at the conclusion of the event, Pranjal Sharma, Associate Director (i/c) – Entrepreneurship and Incubation, Assam down town University, emphasised the importance of creating platforms where young innovators can test and develop their ideas.

He said, “Innovation begins when we give our ideas the courage to be seen, tested and pursued. Platforms like the Ideathon give young innovators an opportunity to take that first step and turn their ideas into solutions that can create real impact.”

The message reflected the central purpose of the event: encouraging participants to move beyond conceptualising ideas and take the initial steps towards validating and developing them.

Strengthening Assam’s Innovation Ecosystem

The Ideathon also contributes to the broader objective of strengthening the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Assam and the Northeast.

Platforms that bring together students, researchers, startups, mentors and industry professionals can help create opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration.

For a region with a growing pool of young professionals and students, such initiatives can provide avenues for innovators to explore entrepreneurship while developing solutions relevant to local and national challenges.

The involvement of institutions from different parts of Assam further expands the potential for collaboration and networking among young innovators.

Role of down town Venture Labs in Entrepreneurship Development

down town Venture Labs (dtVL) serves as the Technology Business Incubator of Assam down town University and provides a platform for nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship.

Through initiatives such as the Ideathon, the incubator seeks to identify promising ideas and encourage innovators to explore the journey from concept development to potential commercialisation.

The support ecosystem can be particularly valuable for early stage innovators who may have technical ideas but require guidance in areas such as validation, business development, mentoring and industry engagement.

The Ideathon therefore complements the university’s broader efforts to promote entrepreneurship as an important component of higher education.

NIDHI iTBI Programme Supports Innovation

The event was organised under the NIDHI iTBI Programme, supported by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.

The initiative provided an institutional framework for conducting the Ideathon and promoting innovation among young participants.

The collaboration between dtVL, Assam down town University, the E-Cell and the Department of Science & Technology demonstrates the importance of coordinated efforts in building innovation focused platforms for students and emerging entrepreneurs.

From Competition to Future Possibilities

While the Ideathon concluded with the announcement of winners, the event also provided participants with an opportunity to consider the next stages of their innovation journey.

For teams whose concepts demonstrate potential, participation in such programmes can serve as an initial step towards further validation, mentoring, incubation and development.

The exposure gained through presenting before industry professionals can also help participants understand the expectations associated with building solutions for real world users.

In this sense, the value of an Ideathon extends beyond prize money, creating an environment where ideas can be challenged, refined and potentially transformed into future ventures.

A Platform for the Next Generation of Innovators

The successful conclusion of dtVL Ideathon 2026 highlights the growing interest in innovation and entrepreneurship among students and young professionals in Assam.

With more than 60 teams participating and 45 ideas making presentations across multiple sectors, the event showcased the diversity of ideas emerging from educational institutions across the state.

The participation of students, research scholars, startups and independent innovators also demonstrated the potential for different sections of the innovation ecosystem to collaborate.

Through continued initiatives of this nature, Assam down town University and down town Venture Labs are creating opportunities for young innovators to develop their ideas, engage with industry and explore entrepreneurship as a pathway for creating solutions and opportunities.

The dtVL Ideathon 2026, under the theme “Forging Ideas, Building the Future,” ultimately provided a platform for participants to take their first steps from ideas towards action, while reinforcing the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in shaping the future of Assam and the Northeast.
