University Announces ₹1 Crore Startup Fund, ₹3 Crore Scholarships, AI Lab and Future-Focused Academic Programmes
Kaziranga University has unveiled an ambitious long-term development roadmap aimed at positioning the institution as a strategic knowledge and innovation partner in the transformation of Assam and the Northeast. Anchored around the vision of “Building Knowledge, Creating Opportunities, Transforming Futures,” the university announced a series of academic, research, entrepreneurial, and industry-focused initiatives designed to align with the national goals of Viksit Assam and Viksit Bharat 2047.
The announcement was made during a press conference addressed by Basant Khetan, Pro Chancellor of Kaziranga University, who outlined the institution’s vision of becoming a globally connected centre for higher education, research, innovation, and skill development.
Universities Must Become Engines of Transformation
Addressing the media, Basant Khetan said that universities today must move beyond their traditional role of awarding degrees and become institutions capable of driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and societal transformation.
He stated that Kaziranga University is entering a new phase of institution-building focused on empowering youth, strengthening communities, and contributing directly to the sustainable development of Assam and the Northeast.
According to him, the future success of higher education institutions will depend on their ability to create entrepreneurs, innovators, skilled professionals, and socially responsible leaders rather than merely producing graduates.
Assam Emerging as India’s Gateway to the East
The Pro Chancellor observed that Assam is currently experiencing one of the most significant phases of economic and infrastructural development in its history.
He highlighted major investments in infrastructure, healthcare, logistics, digital connectivity, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable development that are transforming the state into India’s gateway to Southeast Asia.
He also pointed to the expanding strategic partnership between India and Japan, along with growing international interest in the Northeast, as key drivers of future economic growth.
According to the university, these developments are expected to generate opportunities in sectors such as sustainable agriculture, silk and sericulture, food processing, river and water management, flood resilience, biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and future technologies.
Kaziranga University believes that the youth of Assam should become the primary beneficiaries of this emerging economic transformation.

Major Investments in Innovation and Student Development
To translate its vision into measurable outcomes, the university announced several major initiatives focused on entrepreneurship, financial support, and future technologies.
Among the key announcements was the launch of a ₹1 Crore KU Startup Fund, aimed at encouraging student-led innovation and entrepreneurship. The initiative seeks to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with financial support and institutional guidance to transform innovative ideas into successful ventures.
The university also announced a ₹3 Crore Scholarship Programme to ensure that deserving students are not denied access to quality higher education because of financial limitations.
Recognising the growing influence of artificial intelligence across industries, the university will establish an Intel AI Lab, providing students with practical exposure to AI technologies and preparing them for careers in one of the world’s fastest-growing sectors.
Future-Oriented Academic Programmes
Kaziranga University also announced the introduction of specialised academic programmes aligned with India’s industrial and technological transition.
These include programmes in Electric Vehicle Technology and Industrial Robotics, designed to prepare graduates for opportunities emerging in advanced manufacturing, automation, and sustainable mobility.
The university will also offer internationally recognised Data Analytics programmes in collaboration with the Institute of Analytics (United Kingdom), enabling students to acquire globally benchmarked analytical skills.
To strengthen industry exposure, experiential learning initiatives such as the Bajaj General Quest Hackathon and PwC Launchpad will continue to provide students with real-world problem-solving opportunities and corporate engagement.
Academic Ecosystem Aligned with NEP 2020
Recognising the transformation envisioned under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the university announced plans to redesign its academic ecosystem around multidisciplinary, future-ready, and demand-driven education.
Upcoming academic programmes will increasingly focus on areas including Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Technologies, Semiconductor Technologies, Smart Agriculture, Brahmaputra River Studies, Climate Resilience, Nature-Based Solutions, Healthcare Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Global Employability.
University officials stated that the objective is to prepare students for careers that may still be emerging while equipping them with interdisciplinary knowledge and practical skills.
The institution believes future success will be measured not by the number of graduates produced but by the number of innovators, entrepreneurs, problem-solvers, and job creators it nurtures.
Connecting Northeast India with Global Education
The university also outlined an internationalisation strategy aimed at connecting talented students from Northeast India with leading universities, research institutions, and industries worldwide.
As global universities increasingly establish academic collaborations in India, Kaziranga University intends to position itself as a bridge between the Northeast and international education networks.
Plans include expanding joint research programmes, faculty exchange initiatives, dual-degree pathways, student mobility opportunities, and globally benchmarked academic collaborations.
The university’s long-term vision is to transform the Northeast into a recognised centre for global knowledge, innovation, and research rather than merely serving as a source of talented students for institutions elsewhere.
Vice Chancellor Presents Academic Roadmap
Speaking during the event, M L Gaur, Vice Chancellor of Kaziranga University, outlined the institution’s academic roadmap following his appointment in February 2026.
Drawing on more than four decades of experience across research institutions, agricultural universities, and higher education leadership, Dr. Gaur emphasised that universities must prepare students for careers that are only beginning to emerge.
He stated that the university aims to integrate academic knowledge with practical skills, research with innovation, and education with entrepreneurship.
Reflecting on his experience in Assam, he said the state possesses exceptional scientific potential, entrepreneurial energy, and cultural richness capable of supporting globally competitive education and sustainable development.
Expanding Strategic Partnerships
Kaziranga University reaffirmed its commitment to building a robust ecosystem based on Public-Private-People Partnerships (PPPP).
The institution is expanding collaborations with organisations including CSIR-NEIST, Tocklai Tea Research Institute, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology, and leading industries.
Advanced discussions are also underway with Apollo Hospitals, NEC Corporation, Intel, Larsen & Toubro, National Skill Development Corporation, and Edulateral to strengthen research, internships, innovation, and employment opportunities.
These collaborations are expected to provide students with greater industry exposure while strengthening research and skill development initiatives.
A University Rooted in Assam, Connected to the World
Located in Jorhat, Kaziranga University aims to integrate education with Assam’s ecological, agricultural, scientific, and cultural strengths.
The institution envisions becoming a globally connected university where local knowledge meets international expertise, research addresses regional challenges, and education contributes directly to entrepreneurship, sustainable development, and inclusive economic growth.
Concluding the press conference, Basant Khetan reaffirmed the university’s commitment to working closely with the Government of Assam, industry, research institutions, and society to build a stronger Assam and a stronger Northeast through education, innovation, and collaboration.
