North East Girls Band Set to Make History at NCC Republic Day Camp 2024

In a groundbreaking moment, a band comprising 45 girls from the North East region is set to participate in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp 2024, marking a significant first. St. Francis De Sales School, Guwahati (SFS) which is one of the renowned educational Institutes in North-East India has got 20 talented students out of the total 45 girls set to debut at the NCC Republic Day Camp 2024.

Aged between 13 and 15, these girls aim to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the North East, thereby emphasizing the NCC’s widespread influence across the country.

The Republic Day Camp, scheduled for a month, is designed to expose cadets to India’s diverse traditions, strengthen their values, and foster national integration through cultural exchange programs. NCC Director-General Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh announced this milestone during a media briefing on Wednesday.  The camp, hosting a total of 2,274 cadets, includes the highest-ever participation of 907 girls. Among them, 122 are from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and 177 from the North East.

Notably, cadets and officers from 25 friendly countries under the Youth Exchange Programme (YEP) are also partaking in the camp, enhancing its international dimension. Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh outlined the camp’s objectives, focusing on exposing cadets to India’s rich traditions, strengthening their values, promoting national integration, and fostering unity in diversity through cultural exchange programs.

The Republic Day Camp is expected to witness the presence of several dignitaries, including the Vice President, Raksha Mantri, Raksha Rajya Mantri, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the three Service Chiefs. The NCC Director-General also highlighted the organization’s significant activities in 2023, emphasizing a refined training philosophy centered on personality development, leadership traits, and improved soft skills to prepare cadets for future responsibilities and instill a sense of national pride.
