Assam’s state government employees and pensioners are set to receive a welcome boost in their income as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a 4% hike in dearness allowance (DA) effective from January 1, 2024.

Dearness Allowance hiked by 4% for State Government Employees

This increase brings the total DA to 50% for government workers in the state. Due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the government plans to disburse the amount in installments, with the first arrear expected in May, followed by June and July. Additionally, the Chief Minister revealed plans for the recruitment of Grade IV employees in local villages based on merit for Lower Primary, Middle English, and Higher Secondary schools.

Moreover, significant strides have been made in infrastructure development, with the inauguration of the Basistha-Jalukbari stretch of the Guwahati Bypass. Completed ahead of schedule, this six-lane project includes four flyovers and a vehicular underpass, aimed at easing congestion in the area.

The government has also announced incentives for the adoption of solar panels, offering special discounts and additional benefits for journalists. These initiatives mark a concerted effort by the Assam government to improve living standards and promote sustainable practices across the state.
