Assam is poised for an industrial revolution with a massive investment of 27,000 crore rupees, signaling a new era of advancement in semiconductor technology. The Union Cabinet’s approval on February 29 has paved the way for this transformative change, which is expected to reshape Assam’s economic landscape and bolster its industrial prowess.
Investment for State-of-the-Art Facility in Assam
Spearheaded by Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd, this ambitious endeavour will see the construction of a state-of-the-art semiconductor ATMP hub in Jagiroad, Morigaon district, repurposing the once-defunct Nagaon Paper Mills land acquired by the Assam Government.
At the core of this venture lies futuristic semiconductor packaging methods, featuring cutting-edge flip chip and ISIP technologies. With a target daily production capacity of 48 million units, the facility aims to cater to a wide range of sectors, including automotive, consumer electronics, telecom, and mobile phones. In parallel, Tata Electronics Private Limited, in collaboration with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp, is set to establish a Semiconductor Fab in Dholera, Gujarat, with an impressive investment of 91,000 crore rupees. This initiative is expected to churn out 50,000 wafer starts each month, benefiting sectors such as electric vehicles, telecom, defense, automotive, consumer electronics, display, and power electronics.

Collaborating with international partners demonstrates India’s path towards self-reliance in the semiconductor domain, solidifying its standing as a formidable tech contender on the world stage.
