A tragic incident occurred in Jaruilangbari, a remote village in the Khowai district of Tripura, where a woman was strangled to death by her husband. Both the husband and wife were reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Tragic Incident Unfolds in Tripura Village
The husband, identified as Surjya Ram Reang, confessed to the crime after facing pressure from local residents and is currently hospitalized in Teliamura. Reang told the media that he committed the heinous act because his wife, Shanti Rani Debbarma (35), neglected her household duties due to excessive alcohol consumption.
He claimed that her persistent defiance and failure to prepare meals on the night of the incident triggered his violent outburst, resulting in her tragic death. Earlier, Tripura Police recovered Debbarma’s lifeless body, partially unclothed, from a secluded area near her residence.
Tripura Police sources revealed that Reang faced severe retribution from his neighbors after suspicions arose regarding his involvement in his wife’s demise. Both Reang and Debbarma had been drinking together before the altercation occurred. The Police added that Debbarma left the house under the influence of alcohol amidst a disagreement with her husband. Unfortunately, neither made an effort to locate her as both were heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.
