HT Lifestyle, Vijay Thakkar, Fitness Entrepreneur and Functional Medicine Coach shared, “To keep your kidney health up, you must first understand the difference between your wants and needs. You want good kidney health but fries, sugar, and sodium-loaded junks are something you crave. Advice is to try giving up on your needs to achieve your wants.”


Vijay Thakkar, a Functional Medicine Coach, has compiled a list of incredible foods that can help you improve your kidney health. These are some of them:

1. Drink plenty of water and cut back on sodium to keep your kidneys and overall health in good shape.

2. If you have any type of kidney health disease, such as kidney stones or chronic kidney disease (CKD), protein can become your kidney’s worst enemy. Hence, never consume more than one gramme of protein per kilogramme of body weight per day.

3. Processed, refined, and packed foods are high in sugar and lack natural fats, protein, and fibrous carbs. These high-sugar foods cause inflammation in the blood vessels and organs, which leads to protein cross-linking in the body. 

The absence of enzymes that ignore cross-linking causes kidney health degeneration and the formation of Advanced Glycation End (AGEs) Products, which causes accelerated ageing and body malfunction.

As a result, stick to natural foods like raw fruits and vegetables and avoid highly processed foods.

4. Include vitamin C-rich citrus fruits, spinach, and water-rich vegetables like cucumber, banana stems, and so on.

Dr G Prakash, Deputy-Chief Medical Officer at Jindal Naturecure Institute, stated that hypertension and diabetes are the two main causes of impaired kidney function and that it is critical to managing both hypertension and diabetes in order to avoid kidney diseases.

“Preventive measures such as maintaining a healthy weight through exercise and yoga, as well as following a healthy diet, can help prevent kidney failures,” he said.

1. Consume a diet high in fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, whole grains, beans, seeds, and nuts. A diet low in sodium, sugars and sweets, as well as fats, is recommended. Avoid alcohol and drink plenty of water.

2. To limit sodium, sugars, and sweets, avoid eating out and instead prepare your own meals so that you can keep track of your intake. If you’re eating out, do some research beforehand on the restaurant’s website or ask for less sodium, sweetener, or oil, among other things. Check the calorie and sodium content of packaged foods before eating them.

3. If you have kidney health disease, you should avoid a high-protein diet because it makes your kidneys work harder.
