Kohima wins ‘Nurturing Neighborhoods Challenge’

Along with 10 other cities Kohima won the Nurturing Neighborhoods Challenge. It is among the 10 winning cities under the Nurturing Neighborhoods Challenge. 

The challenge was hosted by the Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, in collaboration with Bernard van Leer Foundation and with the technical support of WRI India. 

Kohima ranked 7th 

As per MoHUA, Kohima won as it was able to transform a roadside garbage bin into a green, community-funded micropark and adapted a schoolyard into a multipurpose public space for young children and caregivers.

Kohima ranked 7th while Bengaluru topped the list followed by Hubballi-Dharwad and Indore among the top 10 winners. 

About the Nurturing Neighborhoods challenge 

The challenge Nurturing Neighborhoods aims to incorporate a focus on neighborhood-level improvements that promote healthy early childhood development in the planning and management of Indian cities. 

Kohima was shortlisted over 60 applications, among which only 25 cities were shortlisted for cohort stage. 

The top cities which were selected under NNC are Bengaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Indore, Jabalpur, Kakinada, Kochi, Kohima, Rourkela, Vadodara, and Warangal. 

It was informed, “Kohima reached out to their citizens to tackle their greatest challenge – parking! They took bold steps in transforming parking spaces into vibrant community spaces with curbside seating and planters.”
