Out of all the wonderful possessions of Meghalaya, Arwah cave is the one holding Archeological importance, which is located in Sohra which is about 54 km from the capital city of Shillong.

Archaeologically rich:

The Arwah Cave is known for its massive structure surrounded by the thick forest of Law Shynna and is much larger in size than the Mawsmai Cave in Sohra.

The cave is highly known for its Limestone formation and the fossils which are believed to be 30 millions years old. It was very beautiful with some ice-like formations above it and the fossils of Marine animals, sea shells can be found inside the Caves.

The place has perfectly preserved fossils which have been found during the limestone formations, fossils that date back millions of years. The caves are cold and dark. It is to be noted that the floor is often wet. In case you’re visiting there any day, do wear proper clothes with non-skid footwear and be sure to carry a torch.

How much time does it takes to explore the Arwah Cave in Northeast?

It takes around 20 minutes to explore the cave which is about 300 meter. Although there is more space than that, the authorities have banned the ways to the extended parts for some reason.

Surrounded by thick forests the Arwah Cave is an absolute treat for adventure and Archaeologist.

How to reach to the Arwah Cave in Northeast?

In case you are in Police Bazar, Shillong then you are required to hire a local Cab for the respective tourist spot.The Journey of Cherrapunjee will be very smooth, satisfying and safe all the way. During journey you can find the views of dramatic moving clouds and fogs all the way.

Ways to the Arwah Cave in Northeast?

There are two ways to reach the Arwa Cave which is from the parking zone.One is a rugged trail and the other is a pleasant walk.

One must purchase a ticket of Rs 20 per person before they enter the cave. The Arwah cave is open to the public between 9:30AM and 5:30PM.

Best time to Visit:

The best time to visit the place is during monsoons(October to March). In case one visits anytime other than that, high rain disrupts their plans as Cherrapunji gets too foggy during the rainy season.

Cave concert at Arwah Cave:

India’s first ever cave concert was held in the Arwa Cave on July 16, 2022. The concert was held with an intention to promote tourism, the concert featured local music talent showcasing their skills.

The Arwa Cave is a relatively new discovery and has speedily qualified as one of the “must-see” attractions in the Cherrapunjee of Meghalaya. Despite being not so old the cave has caught the attention of visitors.

While there’s everything from mountains to waterfalls, it’s the deep long caves that make it a must visit place in India. A vacation to this part of the country will definitely give you the break into the arms of nature.
