In a troubling development, a group of youths purportedly affiliated with Bir Lachit Sena is under scrutiny for allegedly extorting money from a youth in Guwahati. The victim, Bhupen Gogoi, has come forward with accusations that the group forcefully seized his two-wheeler and demanded a sum of Rs 50,000 from him.
Alleged Extortion by Bir Lachit Sena
According to Gogoi, the group initially demanded an exorbitant Rs 7 lakh. However, after negotiations, he was coerced into handing over the smaller amount. Following the ordeal, Gogoi lodged a formal police complaint at the Dispur police station.
The individuals allegedly involved in this extortion racket have been identified as Manoj Deka alias Manoj Asom, Jayanta Sarma alias Jayanta Asom, and Tapan Sarma alias Tapan Asom.
Gogoi’s harrowing experience extends beyond mere financial exploitation. He claims that the group not only issued death threats but also attempted to assault him at his rented accommodation in a previous encounter.
This incident has sparked widespread concern regarding the potential abuse of the Bir Lachit Sena’s name for criminal endeavors. In response, the Guwahati police have swiftly launched an investigation into the matter, aiming to uncover the truth behind these disturbing allegations and bring the perpetrators to justice.
