About the Hornbill festival:
It is the most prominent festival in Nagaland and is celebrated from 1st to 10th of December every year and it unites one and all in Nagaland and people enjoy the colourful performances, crafts, sports, food fairs, games and ceremonies.
Traditional arts which include paintings, wood carvings, and sculptures are also on display. It is also called as the ‘Festival of Festivals’.
Why is it celebrated?
The festival is celebrated in order to revive, protect, sustain, and promote the richness of the Naga heritage and traditions.
Celebration this year:
After a year long gap due to the Covid-19 pandemic the event makes a grand comeback this year.
On November 24, the Nagaland art and culture department, the organizers announced the events for the international festival.
The department said daily cultural performances will be held at the main arena of the Hornbill Festival. Cultural troupes from all 17 tribes within the state will showcase their lively songs and dances in their colourful traditional attires.
