A gruesome incident has come to light in Mumbai where a 24-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her mother and cutting her body into pieces. The accused, identified as Rimple Jain, allegedly kept her mother’s remains with her for over two months until the incident came to light on Tuesday. The victim, Veena Prakash Jain (55), used to stay with her husband and Rimple at Virar. After her husband passed away 16 years ago, she shifted to Ibrahim Kasar Chawl in Lalbaug.

Discovery of the crime

The incident came to light when one of Veena’s nieces went to the Lalbaug house to give her money for monthly expenses. When Rimple did not open the door, the niece inquired about them from the neighbours and was told that Veena has not been seen for over two months. The niece informed her mother and an aunt who went to the Lalbaug house. As they kept knocking on the door, Rimple opened the door after some time but closed it soon after. Following this, some of Veena’s relatives forced themselves inside the house and found Rimple in possession of Veena’s remains.

Details of the Crime Scene where Rimple kills her mother

As per the police, Rimple allegedly cut her mother’s hands and legs and kept them in a water tank while the torso and head were wrapped in a plastic bag and kept inside a cupboard. The remains were sent to KEM hospital for postmortem, and Rimple was taken into custody for questioning. During interrogation, Rimple allegedly told the police that Veena had fallen off the first floor on December 27, 2022. Two persons working at a Chinese eatery located below their house had helped Veena and took her back to her house. Veena had sustained injuries on her head and other body parts, but she was not taken to a doctor, and she may have succumbed to her injuries.

“We are unsure how Veena Jain was killed,” said DCP Munde, adding there used to be verbal altercations between the mother and daughter. Rimple allegedly feared everyone would blame her for Veena’s death and decided to cut her body into pieces and dispose of them. She used an electric marble cutter, sickle, and a knife but could not dispose of the body parts and kept the remains in a cupboard and water tank. Rimple Jain has been booked on charges of murder and destruction of evidence and will be produced before the court today.

Arrest and Interrogation of the Accused

The incident has shocked the local residents and Veena’s relatives, who are still trying to come to terms with the horrific crime. Speaking to the media, some of Veena’s neighbours expressed their shock and disbelief at the gruesome incident. “I cannot believe that someone could do something like this to their own mother. It’s shocking and disturbing,” said one of the neighbours.

The incident has also sparked outrage on social media, with many people expressing their condolences to the family and demanding justice for Veena. “This is a heinous crime, and the accused must be punished severely for her actions. No one should be allowed to get away with something like this,” wrote one user on Twitter.

The police have assured that they will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and bring the accused to justice. “We are investigating the matter from all angles and will leave no stone unturned to ensure that justice is served,” said DCP Munde.

The incident highlights the need for better mental health awareness and support for individuals who may be struggling with mental health issues. It also underscores the importance of timely medical attention in case of injuries or accidents, which can often prevent more serious consequences. The tragedy has left the family and the community reeling, and it will take a long time for them to come to terms with the horrific incident.
