Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Monday the center’s four-year infrastructure asset monetization plan to raise 6 lakh crore rupees ($81 billion) through the National Monetization Pipeline (NMP). Sitharaman first announced the monetization plan in his annual budget speech in February. It will serve as a medium-term roadmap for the government’s asset sale plan.
Key points from the launch
The national monetization pipeline includes the four-year abandoned central government industrial infrastructure asset pipeline from 2022 to 2025. The top three industries that determine asset monetization include railways, airports, and coal.

Items to be established under the plan and its ownership
Under the plan, 15 railway stadiums, 25 airports and 160 coal mining projects will be established to monetize assets. In addition, assets such as roads, transmission lines, and natural gas pipelines will also become part of the monetization plan.
The ownership (of assets) will still be in the hands of the government and be forcibly returned after a certain period of time. Time. The government does not sell anything: FM Sitharaman. Only underutilized assets will be monetized, and the plan will help identify abandoned assets that need to be better monetized.
What does the plan aim to achieve?
The plan aims to mobilize the existing asset base and use its profits to create new infrastructure, recover future assets and generate a multiplier effect and reactivate credit flows. After a specified period of time, the private sector must return the assets to the center, which is mandatory.
India must realize that now is the time to make the most of our assets.By incorporating private participation, we will better monetize assets, and any resources you obtain through monetization, you can invest in greater infrastructure investment.
The government plans to associate it with previously announced national infrastructure projects. The highway sector covers approximately 26,700 kilometers of assets, which will be considered for monetization. It will be worth 1.6 lakh crore rupees.
The road sector has monetized a 1,400-kilometer road project worth Rs 1.7 billion. Similarly, the streaming industry monetized five assets through PowerGrid InvIt, generating Rs 7.7 billion.
Centre’s plan with electric transmission
The center is seeking to monetize 28,608 kilometers of transmission lines worth 45,200 crore, which will be undertaken by PowerGrid. The government is also considering generating electricity through NTPC, NHPC, and NLC in the solar and hybrid fields, valued at Rs 39,832 crore.
