In an inspiring tale of perseverance and victory, 21-year-old Bambam Thoundojam from Manipur has marked history by becoming the first Indian Pro Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter to clinch the World Champion Title Belt at the 15th World Cup MMA Championship in Russia.

Overcoming financial hurdles that forced him to drop out of school, Bambam’s journey to glory was fraught with challenges. Despite working as a carpenter and a daily wage earner to support himself, and his mother selling fish to make ends meet, Bambam’s participation in the championship seemed uncertain due to financial constraints. However, with his mother’s relentless efforts, he secured the opportunity and emerged victorious in a stunning 27-second bout against Marat Guseynov of Russia.
Bambam dedicated himself to training rigorously for three to six hours daily, he improvised with makeshift equipment like logs and spare tyres in the absence of proper gear. The sacrifices he made were immense, including enduring health setbacks such as vomiting blood due to the inability to afford a nutritious diet.
Alongside his friends, he now works tirelessly to support victims of addiction, providing assistance at various rehabilitation centres.
