Videos surfaced online of people trying to escape the city of Kabul by rushing to board a US Air Force plane after the Taliban’s takeover.

Attempts to escape the nightmare

It’s utter mayhem and chaos in Afghanistan after the takeover of Kabul by the Taliban. Desperate situations result in desperate measures resulting in loss of life due to fear of being controlled by the Taliban.

At the Kabul International airport, a crowd swarms the airport runway trying to chase a US Air Force plane that was leaving Afghanistan while a group huddles on a wing of a plane before take-off.

Allegedly, three people fall to their death in one of the multiple videos where they were shown holding on to a wheel of a US plane flying out of Kabul in a fear-driven insane attempt to escape Taliban rule.

Tariq Majidi of TOLO News writes, “Three Kabul residents who were trying to leave the country by hiding next to the tire or wing of an American plane, fell on the rooftop of local people. They lost their lives due to the terrible conditions in Kabul,” on a video stowaway looking like dots from the plane.

Sadly, five people have been killed although the cause for their death is unconfirmed as to whether it was death by stampede or killed by gunshots.

Gathering at the airport in hopes of freedom

Kabul airport

After the news of the Taliban entering the presidential palace and with President Ashraf Ghani fleeing from the country, mobs, including women and children started to gather outside Kabul International Airport.

This morning, some even tried to squeeze themselves through the barbed wires and scale the walls in hopes to flee from Taliban rule.

To control the situation, American forces try to evacuate their staff with their close Afghan allies.

However, the terrified residents of Kabul race to the airport with their belongings, without any permits or visas to catch any flight out of the country.

Moreover, Afghanistan’s air space was closed and the flights from the US which were already in the air had to refuel in the Middle East.
