A woman from California discovered $36,000 stuffed in the cushions of a free couch she found on Craigslist and immediately returned the money.
California woman couldn’t believe her good fortune
Vicky Umodu needed to furnish her new house in California on a budget, and she couldn’t believe her good fortune when she came upon a sofa set that was being given away.
She told ABC7 from her home in Colton, near Los Angeles, this week, “I just moved here and I don’t have anything in my house.”
“We picked it up and carried it in because I was so excited.”
But it turns out that the giveaway had a lot more to it than first appeared.
Inside one of the cushions, she discovered a bulge that turned out to be many envelopes stuffed with cash, totaling thousands of dollars.
“Come, come, come! I was just telling my son. This is money, I was yelling! I need to contact the guy.”
Umodu contacted the folks in California who had given her the couch and informed them of the fortune, as well as returned the money.
Moreover, the family, who were clearing out the home of a recently deceased loved one, claimed they had no idea where the money came from.
However, the family stunned Umodu with a gift of more than $2,000, enough to purchase the refrigerator she requires for her new house.
