Assam: 2 dead and several injured due to police-public clash in Gorukhuti, Darrang

Two locals reportedly died, with injuries to twelve police personnel after a conflict arose between the police and the locals. The incident took place at Gorukhuti village in Sipajhar Revenue circle under Darrang district on Thursday i.e on 23 September. The eviction driving force was carried out by the Assam Government. 

According to reports, the villagers of Dholpur Area no. 3 held a protest against the police, who got here for the eviction and pelted stones at them.

Protestors attacked police with blunt weapons following which police retaliated by bursting tear gas and rubber bullets and additionally shot live rounds to disperse the mob.

Reports stated that a person named Saddam Hussain and another named Sheikh Farid died and numerous others have been critically injured throughout the firing incident.

Sources informed that as many as 12 police employees had been additionally injured in the clash.

Major eviction drive in Dhalpur

The authorities, on Monday, carried out a massive eviction drive at Dhalpur No. 1 and Dhalpur No. 3 regions under Sipajhar Revenue Circle in Darrang district to evict encroachers from authorities land.

Till this evening, the district management cleared 8,000 bighas of encroached land and evicted 800 numbers of encroachers without dealing with any protest or resistance from the encroachers. Significantly, the eviction pressure turned into carried out in a pre-deliberate manner.

In the first-ever major eviction drive which was carried out today, Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) Dipak Kedia, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Western Range Brajenjit Singha and Superintendent of Police Er Sushanta Biswa Sarma led a massive contingent of Assam Police, paramilitary forces, and the SDRF numbering greater than 1200 to help the district management in wearing out the eviction drive.

Deputy Commissioner Prabhati Thaosen assisted through Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Pankaj Deka, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pallabi Kachari, CEO of Darrang Zilla Parishad Ramen Malakar and different officers in my opinion supervised the eviction force from 7 am to six pm the use of a terrific range of excavators and tractors.
