Mizoram found its Olympic competitor in the Hockey player Lalremsiami for the first time in 2 decades. With this, she will also become the first female Olympian from Mizoram.
She is all set to make her debut in the Tokyo Olympics planned to begin from July 23 to August 8. The 21-year-old player is also among one of the eight debutants assigned to the 16 member Indian women hockey squad.
In an interview with Northeast Today, Mizoram State Sports Minister Robert Romawia Royte praised her and conveyed best wishes to her. Besides Lalremsiami, the team includes seven other debutants- Gurjit Kaur (defender), Udita (defender), Nisha (mid-fielder), Navneet Kaur (forward), Sharmila Devi (forward), and Salima Tete (mid-fielder).
“We look forward to taking on the best in the world in Tokyo. This is a team with a lot of potentials and drives which we hope to channelise our energies to give our best performance,” said the Indian women’s hockey team chief coach Sjoerd Marijne.
