As a boost to the revenue for the state, the Krooshi Karma Naturals Private Ltd, of Manipur has set a target to export at least 250 metric tons (MT) of pineapple to Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Jaipur. The company apart from pineapples also has been exporting Kiwi fruit and avocado since 2018.
The first consignment of 1.2 metric ton (MT) to Gurgaon and Jaipur was flagged off by additional chief secretary P Vaiphei from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.
This initiative comes as a major push to the business of the state. During the period of 2018-20, Pineapple farmers in Manipur have earned over Rs 78 lakh. Last year, around 220 MT was exported and this step during Pandemic is a saving grace for the hard working farmers of the state.
Chief minister N Biren Singh said in a facebook post, “It gives me great hope for our farmers that the state govt. has started airlifting Manipuri pineapples even during this Covid-19 pandemic. The Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) in collaboration with Krooshi Karma Naturals Pvt. Ltd. Imphal has set an ambitious target to market over 250 MT of high quality pineapples of the State, thereby benefiting over 900 farmers of Manipur.”
