Facebook has now acquired the Seattle-based game studio, BigBox VR whose major success has been the popular battle royale virtual reality game, Population: One. The acquisition terms weren’t disclosed so as the sum.
Population: One has been a hit earning more than $10 million. BigBox VR might be small, but their team sure is mighty and has seamlessly perfected the game development duality of craft and data-driven live service.
Mike Verdu, the VP of content at Facebook Reality Labs stated, “We’re excited to help BigBox VR grow and accelerate their vision for POPULATION: ONE as a state-of-the-art VR social gaming experience.”
Facebook has been buying several virtual reality game studios over the years and BigBox VR is the fifth major VR studio to be added to the social media’s portfolio. The entire team of BigBox VR is expected to join a Facebook subsidiary, Oculus Studios.
