On June 18, a man identified as Anuj Chetan Katheria was on Friday was arrested in Kanpur for reportedly marrying five women without being legally separated from his earlier wives and honey-trapping many others, police informed.
The accused is from Shahjahanpur and he was planning to get married for the sixth time before he was apprehended by the Kidwai Nagar police.
DCP South Kanpur Police Raveena Tyagi notified that Anuj Katheria, a self-proclaimed ‘baba’, was arrested as his wife filed a complaint against him She said to the police that Anuj was married to five women and was going to marry for the sixth time.
Due to the reports, Anuj Katheria first married in 2005. His first wife is a resident of Mainpuri district, told police that their divorce case is in court. In 2010, Anuj married a woman from Bareilly district, who also filed for a divorce.
Four years later, he married a woman from Auraiya district. And after that he married his third wife’s cousin, who died by suicide after she learnt the truth about his previous marriages, police said.
Anuj got married for the fifth time in 2019. After their wedding, Katheria allegedly started harassing her and again a case was registered against him.
“He had not told his fifth wife about his other marriages. After a few days of their wedding, he started harassing her and she filed a complaint at Chakeri police station last year. And since Anuj lived in Kidwai Nagar police station area, the woman filed a case at the respective police station last month,” police said.
