As per the latest reports, advocate V Sibal informed that the e- auction will be remain cancelled during the hearing of an temporary petition filed by tHPCL officers, supervisors association, and two others who look for the court’s interference as there was no such response regarding the e-auction sale notice.
The two paper mills namely Cachar Paper Mill at Panchgram in Hailakandi district and Nagaon Paper Mill at Jagiroad in Morigaon district both units of Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited — have been shut since October, 2015 and March, 2017 respectively. HPC’s Cachar unit in Panchgram stopped operations on October 20, 2015, while the Nagaon mill in Jagiroad did so on March 31, 2017.
Since March 2017, when the Central government-owned mill was shut down. Over 1200 employees have been unpaid since their closure. So far, 89 employees have died including four suicides due to lack of funds for medical treatment, respectively officials said.
