At a time when low birth weight and malnourishment have become a major concern, a heavy male baby weighing 5.2 kilograms was born to a woman in Silchar, Assam. Doctors claim the baby to be the heaviest newborn in the state.
It was a complex case of late delivery. On Tuesday, a team of senior doctors at a government hospital performed the cesarean section procedure on the mother.
The delivery was due on May 29. However, the parents delayed the delivery by not going to a hospital for fear of contracting Covid19.
As per doctors, the record so far for the heaviest newborn in India is held by a male baby weighing 6.8 kg born in Hassan district in 2016.
