50% of the adult population in the country who were eligible for Covid-19 vaccines, has successfully received their 1st dose of vaccine, among those which includes 99% coverage of healthcare workers and 100% front-line workers for the first dose.

However, a little more than 60% of the population above 60 years has also been covered by at least a first dose of the vaccine.

During August, the average day-to-day vaccinations so far have risen to 52.16 lakh doses from 43.41 lakh and 39.38 lakh in July and June respectively, reported by the Government.

In this context, the government said the supply condition of vaccines appears satisfactory as there have been no shortages reports from any state on vaccines in the past few weeks.

What did the health Secretary say?

Rajesh Bhushan

Health secretary, Rajesh Bhushan said, “In last three weeks, balanced unutilized vaccine doses count in the country has never gone below 2.5 crores,” underlining that the Centre takes stock of the supply and availability situation from states and UTs every morning.

He also added that the Centre has asked to boost up the vaccination process in states, particularly that of the second dose, as there is better availability now.

Matter of real concern

The high incidence of the disease in states like Kerala and Maharashtra has been seeing a significant rise in Covid cases, whereas the government is considering night curfews to curb the situation.

In this regard, he said that it is a matter of real concern which gives rise to the fear that a ready host of vulnerable persons may see the emergence of a new mutant strain.

Recently, India has observed an uptick in the number of Covid cases.

However, India has been reporting an uptick in the number of 40,000 new infection cases daily, in the past three days. Moreover, the nation has recorded 44,658 new infections, taking the total number of cases to 3,26,03,188, in the past 14 hours.
