Citizens of Guwahati are facing artificial floods due to plastic waste clogging the drainage system. So the Guwahati Municipal Corporation(GMC) has been pondering developing the Ahmedabad model in waste collection and disposal in the city.
The Guwahati development department minister Ashok Singhal visited Ahmedabad to meet officials of Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to examine a solid waste treatment plant and a plastic disposable unit there.
After coming back Singhal said, “A plastic disposal unit of AMC helped Ahmedabad city to reduce the plastic waste and keep the city clean. Such initiative in Guwahati will help us managing the plastic waste to prevent our drainage system from clogging and maintain cleanliness.” He added that the GMDA has aimed to make Guwahati one of the finest cities in the country.
