In response to a demand for an ‘easy online open-book examination,’ the Gauhati University (GU) authority has decided to hold the undergraduate fourth-semester exams online beginning September 25.
Even as university officials acknowledged the sanctity of the tests through the internet mode is “doubtful,” university sources said it will be the last open book examination conducted by the state institution before the Durga Puja festival begins.
NEET and CCE held offline
While normality is resuming slowly to the campuses, two important tests, NEET and the Assam Public Service Commission Combined Competitive Exam (CCE), was held in the pen-and-paper manner earlier half of this month under the supervision of the authorities.
GU officials, on the other hand, indicated that expecting student demonstrations, they opted to go with the online mode once more, perhaps for the final time, unless another pandemic wave hits the state.
“Students complain when we seek to return to the offline form of tests. They wish to take their tests online. However, there would be no online tests under GU after Durga Puja “DJ Choudhury, the GU controller of examinations, informed TOI.
Fourth-semester examinations to be concluded before Durga Puja
The impending fourth-semester examinations will conclude before GU’s Durga Puja break. According to a statement released by GU on Tuesday, students must mail a PDF copy of their answer scripts within a certain amount of time after the conclusion of each paper’s examination.
“After the examination schedule, students must submit all original hard copies of answer scripts for each subject/paper to the college authority within the scheduled time for submission in a single packet mentioning the roll numbers, subject, paper title, paper code, and semester on the outer side of the envelope,” according to the notice.
The college authorities will get detailed instructions regarding the evaluation of answer scripts shortly. “On the scheduled dates of 9th and 10th October (Sunday), 2021, the college authority will arrange for the receiving of the students’ answer scripts,” the announcement continued.
Higher Secondary Final Special Examination- 2021 commences from 1st Oct
According to sources in the state education department, because universities are autonomous institutions, they have the freedom to choose the manner of examination now that Covid-19 is largely under control.
The Higher Secondary Final Special Examination- 2021 will be held by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) starting October 1.
Students who were unsatisfied with the board examinees’ statistical formula-based evaluation will take the test.
AHSEC controller of examinations comments on offline exam mode
The state government’s decision to move forward with in-person exams following Covid guidelines is reflected in AHSEC’s preparation to conduct the exam in an offline format.
The special exams for Class X will also be held at the same time.
“Because it is impossible to protect the sanctity of such critical exams in the internet mode, the special exam will be done offline. Board examinees who are dissatisfied with their results want to present only in the offline format ” Pankaj Barthakur, the AHSEC controller of examinations stated.
