The Assam government has decided to commence beautification of the famous Deepor Beel area. It is a Ramsar site on the outskirts of Guwahati city.
In a meeting on Wednesday discussion related to beautification of the permeate next freshwater lake, located 10 km southwest of the state capital was held. The Ramsar Convention has recorded the lake, popular for its biological and environmental importance, as a Ramsar Site.
A suggestion has been sent to the Centre for realignment of the railway line running through the wetland which creates noise pollution and disturbs migratory birds. Further formation of cycling tracks along the road is also being planned to attract more tourists.
