A 27-year-old pregnant woman named Ayesha Khatun gave birth to a baby boy inside a coach of Howrah-Yesvantpur Express at Bhubaneswar railway station on Saturday.
The woman gave birth to a baby boy, with the assistance of a special group of volunteers ‘Meri Saheli’ formed by railways for assisting woman passengers.
According to sources, Ayesha was travelling in coach No S-4 of Howrah-Yesvantpur Express with her husband Samed Ali and mother-in-law when she developed labor pain.
Following instructions from the station superintendent of Bhubaneswar, RPF woman sub-inspector Sachala Pradhan and a Meri Saheli team rushed to attend to the woman. They isolated the woman and helped her deliver the child.
Subsequently, the Railway doctor and staff attended to the woman and the newborn. As per the suggestion of the doctor, the woman and newborn were shifted to the Capital Hospital for further treatment.
“I want to thank people for helping me & providing us the return ticket. I’m fine & we will now go to Bengaluru,” says new-mother Ayesha.
