The Padma Shri awardee and former Indian National Football Captain Bhaichung Bhutia is facing a revolt from the people in the streets after objecting to the government’s decision. The government decided to construct a 300-bed hospital in Namchi.
However, Bhaichung stated that the plot of land in concern was used as a playground by the public and asked the government to change the proposed hospital construction elsewhere to Jorethang. For the first time, the endeared football star has let down Sikkim as the people were out in the streets with slogans such as ‘Bhaichung Murdabad’.
Also, his posters were being carried by the demonstrators and his effigies were set ablaze. However, Bhutia has nothing to say about the protests.

The foundation stone of the hospital has already been laid down by Chief Minister PS Tamang at an estimated expenditure of Rs 300 Crores. As confirmed by the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party’s Vice President, the hospital project would be continued in the interest of the public and would cater to the medical needs of West and South districts.
