Guwahati: On December 24, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated Atal Udyan which is also known as Adabari Park, located in Adabari Tiniali.

Hours after the inauguration, irresponsible citizens of Guwahati have filled the beautiful and just inaugurated park with plastic garbages.
Speaking to ‘The North-Eastern Chronicle’ Arunima Mahanta, a local resident of Adabari said “the opening was around 4 pm and people were served with a packet of snacks and sweets and the empty packets were thrown away in the park itself. I collected few and threw it in the garbage bin.”
“I went inside the park at 6:30 pm. People were served with a packet of snacks and sweets. The empty packets were found here and there. I then collected some of them and threw it to the garbage bin.”
While highlighting these issues she also stated how children were seen plucking balloons and throwing it in the fountains.
“I also saw people plucking plants from the garden and taking it back with them, which was very disturbing to see. I am a resident of Adabari Tiniali, the park is decorated so well, it has a yoga hall which I liked the most. But seeing people behaving in an absurd manner aches my heart,” she added.
While speaking to the team of ‘The North-Eastern Chronicle’ she urged the authorities to station more guards inside the park and add more garbage bins while also imposing fines for littering inside the park.
Constructed at cost of Rs 8 crore 74 lakhs: GMDA
The Atal Udyan park was constructed by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) with a cost of Rs 8 crore 74 lakhs while covering 8 bighas of land.
