A wish with ample determination and never ending spirit holds the power to take people to unimaginable heights. One such story of an Indian Girl proves that. She has surpassed all the ocean of hindrances that came her way to reach the top.
Shweta Katti grew up in a brothel in Kamathipura. She went on to win a full scholarship from New York’s Bard College, becoming the first girl from an Indian red light area to study abroad.
Shweta is the eldest of 3 daughters and grew up in a brothel till she was 16. Following which she joined an NGO Kranti that helps girl belonging to Red light areas of Mumbai to see themselves indulge in a much better position. Due to her work for marginalised girls, Shweta was included in Newsweek’s 25-Under-25 Women to Watch list.
“I am humbled that my voice and journey have been appreciated,” Shweta told the press. “But this award is for my mom first and then my friends at Kranti.”
