In a major decision by the state Cabinet, the state Government has instructed the use of only Hand woven Gamosa(a form of Assamese traditional scarf) will be used in all government programmes. The cabinet also decided that from now onwards, the state anthem ‘O Mur Apunar Dekh’ will be played at the beginning of all government programmes, meetings etc while national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ will be played at the end”.
With Assam having a workforce of 15 lakh weavers, this decision has the possibility of becoming a major opportunity for small scale textile industries as well as individuals. Only traditional food items will be served in the government programmes from now onwards.
