On Sunday, June 5, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma warned Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, charging him with corruption in the handling of (personal protective equipment) PPE kits during the Covid epidemic.
Allegation on Assam CM’s wife Riniki Bhuyan
Sisodia has questioned why the BJP had been mute on allegations of corruption involving Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan, and her company.
“The company in question wrote to Assam’s NHM stating that supply of around 1,500 PPE kits for Covid warriors must be treated as CSR contribution and hence not a single rupee must be paid by Govt. Assam NHM duly acknowledged the same” Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.
“Manish Bhai, this is not corruption, it’s humanity. My wife hasn’t committed a crime, she tried to help Assam at the time of its biggest crisis. Throwing muck at others will not be accepted. You will face legal consequences,” he added.
Earlier, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had said, “We are in the extreme north of the country. We struggled for every PPE at that point in time. Roads were closed. Train and air services were halted. Anybody who gave PPE kit at that point in time, we are eternally grateful.”
“At that time, my family had donated PPE kits to the government of Assam,” he continued. “And no financial transactions have taken place, and no money has been sent to any of my family’s businesses or persons.”

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also hit out at those making corruption accusations against his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, and said, “In spite of Assam government duly acknowledging that this was a gift and we are thankful..that letter my wife has already mentioned in her tweet…you can make any kind of account-checking whether that company has been paid a single paisa from the state government. If anybody can prove that, I’ll be very happy.”
