As per the total ranking list released by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), Mirabai Chanu is the only weightlifter from India to compete at the Tokyo Olympics this year. Chanu ranked second in the women’s 49kg category with 4133,6172 points.

The former Indian world champion Mirabai is presently training in the US ahead of the Tokyo Olympics and had spent two months working with former weightlifter-turned-physical therapist and strength and conditioning coach Dr Aaron Horschig earlier.

Channu created a new record in women’s 49kg category with a gigantic lift of 119kg at the Asian Weightlifting Championship this year in the month of April. Mirabai – who lifted a total of 205kg, including a world record of 119kg in clean and jerk, to secure a bronze medal in the Asian championships in April – is considered a strong medal prospect in the Olympics. She is training in the USA at present.
