Veteran Dutch cyclist Bauke Mollema claimed a fine solo victory on stage 14 of his second Tour de France win in the race with a rough 183.7-km ride from Carcassonne on Saturday.
Mollema was part of a 14-man group who went for a 42km aggressive run. Austrian Patrick Konrad took second place, with Colombia’s Sergio Higuita coming home third, both one minute four seconds off the pace.
“I knew I had a good chance to make it to the end, I paced myself and when I saw I had a minute at the top of the last climb I knew it was done,” said Mollema.
