Heavy snowfall has left over 275 tourist vehicles trapped in Sikkim’s Nathula, Tsomgo Lake, and surrounding locations.

The tourists, on the other hand, made good use of their time and were reported to be “enjoying the snowstorm” rather than panicking.

“Due to heavy snowfall, over 275 vehicles transporting tourists have been left stuck at Nathula, Tsomgo Lake, and neighbouring locations,” authorities said.

In the meantime, Indian Army forces have supplied shelter and food to the trapped tourists. If the weather conditions in the areas improve, the stranded visitors will be taken to Gangtok on Sunday.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted significant snowfall in Sikkim’s higher elevations.

Sikkim saw its first snowfall of the season on Friday, as the temperatures dropped to 2 degrees Celsius as per Met department.
