Sikkim Police have successfully solved a house burglary case of Namnang, Gangtok within 24 hours by arresting the accused and recovering some of the stolen items.
The burglary had taken place on April 11. It was reported to the police that unknown persons had broken into the complainant’s house and took away cash amounting to Rs. 12 lakh, gold ornaments of around 15 tolas and two wrist watches.
Addressing a press conference at his office Wednesday, Gangtok SP Tenzing Loden Lepcha said the case of burglary was registered at Sadar PS Gangtok after the victim lodged a complaint.
Conducting swift investigations, police arrested the accused person Bhusan Trikahtri from Sikkim-Bengal border on April 12, informed the SP.
He informed that police have recovered cash amounting to Rs. 3, 50,750, a Tilhary weighing around 5 tolas, a watch and a Nokia mobile phone from the accused.
The accused (33) hails from Phongla, Namchi district and was presently residing in Shyari here.
As per the SP, the accused is a history sheeter having spent 23 months imprisonment in Rongneck State Jail in connection to burglary and another imprisonment in Nepal in connection with drugs there.
Sikkim Reported Cases Of Housebreaking
Another five cases of housebreaking have been solved with his arrest, the SP informed.
He lauded the prompt and vigilant effort put in by a team of Sadar police Station Gangtok led by SI Tsheda Bhutia in solving the Namnang burglary case.
In the meantime, the Gangtok SP appealed to the public not to keep cash and gold jewelry in house and if kept, have proper locker facility and install CCTV cameras.
One can dial emergency number 112 anytime when they find any suspicious activities and other crimes in their locality, he said.
