SIKKIM BOXER FIRST TO REPRESENT INDIA WITH 11 OTHERS IN ASIAN JUNIOR BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP

Sikkim boxer Jayant Dagar is among the 12 Indian boxers who will be competing in the Asian Junior Boxing Championship scheduled to be held from March 3 to 15 in Amman, Jordan.


A press release on Thursday informed that Sikkim boxer Jayant along with 11 others was selected to represent India in the championship on the basis of their performances at national level.

 
The Asian junior championship will be the first international competition that Jayant will be participating in.


“I am feeling proud to represent Sikkim at Asian Junior Boxing Championship. This is my first international competition in boxing.

My preparation is good and I hope to display good performance,” said Jayant. He will be leaving for the Amman from Delhi on Monday
Jayant, who started in boxing at early stage of his life, has won gold medals at State and national championships.

Sikkim Boxer Jayant Dagar’s Achievements


The Kyi-De-Khang School student won his first gold medal in 2017 in 46 kg weight category at Sikkim State Boxing Championship. In 2018, he came into limelight at national level after winning a gold at Haryana State Boxing Championship. Likewise, he won gold medal at NE Zone Boxing Championship at Golaghat, Assam in 2019.

That year, he also became the first boxer from Sikkim to win gold medal at National School Games.


His father Arun Dagar is a national level boxer of Haryana State and has been promoting boxing activities in Sikkim since last many years. Arun also donated boxing equipment to professional boxing clubs and extended support to install boxing rings in different districts of Sikkim.


Arjuna Awardee in boxing, Jaslal Pradhan, who is also the president of Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association, has expressed his best wishes to the Sikkim boxer Jayant for the upcoming Asian Junior Boxing Championship.
