The Meghalaya United Christian Forum (MUCF) is concerned and shocked by media claims that Meghalaya is going to become a center for legalized gambling and online gaming.

MUCF Secretary statement

“The transformation of Meghalaya into a hub of legalized gambling, online betting, and casinos will have far-reaching consequences on the lives of young and vulnerable men and women and their families, regardless of community or belief,” MUCF secretary Synsharlang Kharshiing said in a statement on 25th April.

Online gambling and casinos, according to Kharshiing, may bring in a lot of money for the government, but the main question is if people are willing to pay the price and endure the consequences of such an endeavor on society as a whole.

“The leaders of the state should deeply introspect before jumping head-on with excitement without considering the destruction it may cause to the present and future generations,” the forum added.
