While cricket fans around the world anticipate Phase 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, the BCCI’s top brass are busy planning the big auction later this year. Each franchise spends restless nights in anticipation of a huge auction, in which the bulk of players are up for grabs, with a limit on the number of players who may be retrenched by each franchise.
The teams would be permitted to keep a maximum of four players each ahead of next year’s big auction. The team management has the option of keeping three Indian players and one foreign player, or two Indian players and two international players, depending on the circumstances. Before entering the auction, the franchises would subtract the salaries of these four players. Fans are confused and have taken to Twitter to share their picks and choices of four players the franchises could retain for IPL 2022.
The big auction is set to take place in December, and the two new franchises will debut in October.Kolkata-based RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, Ahmedabad-based Adani Group, Hyderabad-based Aurobindo Pharma Ltd, and Gujarat-based Torrent Group are among those who have shown interest in purchasing additional IPL franchises.
