About GMCH
Dr. John Berry White, MRCS, a British East India Company surgeon, was the first to introduce health education and treatment to Assam. In the years 1898-1899, he founded the ‘Berry White Medical School’ in Dibrugarh, Assam. This medical school was improved throughout time, and on November 3, 1947, the Assam Medical Institution, Dibrugarh was founded, making it the first medical college in Assam.
In 1959, the government of Assam, led by Mr. B.P. Chaliha, then-Chief Minister, Mr. Fakaruddin Ali Ahmed, then-Finance Minister, and Mr. Rupram Brahma, then-Medical Minister, decided to establish a second medical college in the state. On November 7, 1959, the State Government formed an expert committee to investigate the situation and produce a report.

Post Name and Qualifications
Director: MBBS, MD/MS, or DM/MCH in any medical speciality/Super speciality Thirteen years of experience in relevant specialities.
Joint Director (Technical) : MBBS,MD/MS or DM/MCH in any medical speciality/Super speciality with Six years experience in the speciality for non teaching Cadre & Thirteen year for GDO cadre.
Consultant (IEC,Publication & Media): Postgraduate in Mass Communication Journalism with sufficient experience of handling Mass Media division in a Govt. Setup/Public Sector Undertaking
Consultant (Research Publication and data Management, Statistics) : Postgraduate in Medical/Public Health/Medical Statistics/ Social Science with sufficient experience of research and data management in a Govt. Setup/PSU/Non-Govt. Organisation/ Hospital
Transplant Coordinator : Graduate of any recognised system of medicine; or Nurse; or Bachelor’s degree in Health Science or in any subject and preferably post graduate in Social Science with experience and background in Social Science preferably with sufficient training in Tissue Banking. Persons with previous work experience of working in the Tissue Bank will be preferred.
Data Entry Operator: Graduate from a recognized university. Diploma in Computer Proficiency from Govt. recognized institute for one year
