Tirap district police of the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles in Arunachal Pradesh, found six hardcore members of different insurgent groups including Eastern Naga National Government (ENNG) and the NSCN-IM in the past three days, said a report on Saturday.
The arrests were done by following a series of operations which was conducted over the last three days at Khonsa that is the district headquarter, said the Assam Rifles in a communiqué.
Arms and ammunition was found
A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the rebels. Based on a report, an operation has been launched during a joint team of Assam Rifles and district police launched to nab three hardcore insurgents who were reportedly involved in extortion, nefarious activities against locals in the district, and kidnapping as well.
A total of six pistols, live ammunition, opium, and extorted money were recovered from these three persons, which helped the team to apprehend three more insurgents The insurgents also revealed that they had kidnapped and locked a 28-year-old woman inside her house in the Longbo village since June on suspicion of passing data of underground cadres to the security forces.
In another revelation, they accepted that they were involved in kidnapping an RWD employee from his residence in Tirap’s Sanliam village where they tortured him while extorting Rs 3 lakh from him. The employee was blindfolded, handcuffed, and taken to the jungle. He was beaten up and told to pay another Rs 10 lakh.
Joint operation to nab three hardcore insurgents
Based on specific intelligence reports, an Assam Rifles and police team launched a joint operation to nab three hardcore insurgents who were reportedly involved in kidnapping, extortion, and nefarious activities against locals in the district. Information provided by these three helped the team to find three more insurgents.
Earlier on Sep, 02, Assam rifle conducted a search operation & recovered two. Where 22 mm pistols, one 9 mm pistol, assorted ammunition & one Hand Grenade from a village called Longphailum located in the Money District of Manipur.
