On Saturday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated that the state government will pay Saikhom Mirabai Chanu a cash prize of Rs 1 crore for winning the silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Announcement by Manipur CM
During a video conversation with the Olympian, the chief minister made the news. Mirabai Chanu, a 26-year-old Manipur weightlifter, attempted 117 kg on her final effort but failed and had to settle for silver.
Mirabai Chanu set a new Olympic record in the clean and jerk with a lift of 115 kg. She took the silver medal in the women’s 49kg division.
Cash prize for the athletes
On June 29, 2021, Manipur’s chief minister stated that all five Manipur athletes who qualified for the Tokyo Olympics would be granted Rs 25 lakh in financial support, with further cash prizes if they returned with medals.
The Manipur Chief Minister stated that the gold medalist would get Rs 1.20 crore in cash and the silver medalist would receive Rs 1 crore.
