It is a bizarre idea in today’s world to consider women as one’s own property, however, the primitive idea still continue as two men, Sundaramorthy (25) and Manikandan (26) in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu have been arrested for raping a friend’s wife to settle a loan between them. The husband has also been arrested as he encouraged and instigated the crime.
The couple have a two-year old boy and the husband is a daily wage labourer, addicted to liquor. Lack of work opportunities in the dire pandemic lockdown situation, borrowed money from his friends on multiple occasions. He offered his friends the physical relationship with his wife when he failed to pay the loans according to a source from the Panruti All Women Police station.
In December 2020, he drugged his wife and in one occasion brought home his friend when they were both drunk and then allegedly called his friends to his house. His wife upon realising what had happened moved to her mother’s house. The husband regularly visited his wife to ask her to “cooperate” with his friends. Finally, on Monday (07th June), the wife filed a complaint against the husband and his two friends. They were soon arrested and after an inquiry was brought before the Panruti magistrate and sent to the Cuddalore Central prison.
