Revival of a dead person’s eyes

A study revealed that even after the demise of a person, the organ respond to light for up to five hours.

As per reports from India Times, a team of scientists took the eyes of a dead human being and kept them oxygenated during transit. As the organs were prodded with electricity, the light-sensing cells in the organ were restored.

This is the first research on postmortem organ that have been published in Nature. Frans Vinberg who is a professor at the University of Utah said, “we were able to make the retinal cells talk to each other, the way they do in the living eye to mediate human vision.” He further added, “the scientific community can now study human vision in ways that just aren’t possible with laboratory animals.”

According to a study, several authors have said that the revival of the dead eyes ‘raises the question of whether brain death, as it is currently defined is truly irreversible.’
