The great freedom fighter Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha was born in Dhaka on 31 January 1909. He is one of the pioneers of Assamese music and art. From an early age, he played an vital role in the struggle of Indian independence as he was influenced by left wing ideas and came close to the communist party of India. He took part in armed revolutionary movement of Revolutionary Communist Party of India. He also donated 2500 bigha land received from the British government to support the peasants. Rabha was a man of principle also an excellent mass mobilizer and a true organiser of the people.
Apart from being a well-known poet, dramatist, musician, dancer and actor from Assam, Bishnu Prasad Rabha owns great pride in being an eminent fighter of Assam too.
Rabha divas is celebrated in the state of Assam on 20th June each and every year to honour the Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha and his great contributions towards the people of Assam. This year many schools and students have prepared to recite poems composed by Bishnu Prasad Rabha, sing Rabha sangeet and dance performances via online mode.
