After the detection of the first case of Omicron variant in the state of Maharashtra on December 4, other seven cases have been reported taking the tally to reach 12 in the state.
Out of the seven, six have been detected with Omicron in Pimpri while the other one is from Pune. The total Omicron variant tally in Maharashtra stands at 8 now.

It was a 44-year-old woman from Lagos, Nigeria, who along with her two daughters, reportedly came to visit her brother on November 24, in Pimpri-Chinchwad was found to be infected with the Omicron virus.
The case was detected by the National Institute of Virology in Pune. Her 45-year-old brother and his two-and-a-half-year-old and seven-year-old daughters were also found to be infected with the virus.
Further, a 47-year-old man who a little while back travelled to Finland, tested positive for the variant in Pune.
Four of them are fully vaccinated, as adults while the other three are minor.
Current status:
This takes the Omicron tally in Maharashtra to 8 and India to 21.
Meanwhile, on December 5, Delhi reported its first case of the Omicron variant.
