On November 14, the Customs Department seized two wrist watches worth Rs. 5 crores from cricketer Hardik Pandya while returning from Dubai along with team India after a disappointing T20 match at Mumbai airport.

According to the sources, he was stopped at the airport and his wrist watches were seized for allegedly not being able to produce the invoice of those.

“Customs Department seized two wrist watches worth Rs 5 crores of cricketer Hardik Pandya, on Sunday night (November 14) when he was returning from Dubai. The cricketer allegedly did not have the bill receipt of the watches,” says Mumbai Customs Department.

He refutes reports of seizing of wrist watches

He refuted all the allegations related to seizing of wrist watches by the Mumbai Customs Department.

Pandyas Refute statement

Taking to twitter he claimed, “Early on Monday morning, 15th November, on my arrival from Dubai, after picking up my luggage, I voluntarily went to Mumbai airport customs counter to declare the items brought by me and pay the requisite customs duty.”

He further wrote, “Wrong perceptions have been floating around on social media. I voluntarily went to the Mumbai airport customs department to declare the items brought by me and pay the requisite customs duty”.

According to the media reports, the two luxury wrist watches were worth Rs. 5 crores while Hardik Pandya claims it to be around Rs. 1.5 crores.

Pandya stated that he is a “law-abiding citizen and respects all government agencies,” and that he got assistance from the Customs Department, assuring them of his full cooperation.

Hardik Pandya is known for his big collection of expensive luxury watches. In his collection, he also owns Patek Philippe Nautilus Platinum 5711 which is worth more than Rs. 5 crores.

Last year, his elder brother, Krunal Pandya was also detained in Mumbai airport while returning from Dubai for suspicion of smuggling undeclared gold which was worth Rs. 1 crore along with a few luxury watches.

In the recently completed ICC T20 Cricket World Cup, Hardik Pandya was a disappointment. He did not perform as expected in this tournament. Only 69 runs came from Hardik’s bat in the three innings of the T20 Cricket World Cup 2021. He lost his wicket at vital moments, particularly in crucial matches against New Zealand and Pakistan.

Many of the players were selected on the basis of how they performed with a bang in the IPL. Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested from the team.

Venkatesh Iyer, Harshal Patel, Rituraj Gaikwad and Avesh Khan, on the other hand, have been included in the team. Hardik Pandya is expected to be replaced by Venkatesh Iyer.
